Grids

Grids 001 - 030

January, 27 - February, 25 2026

This ongoing series reflects my enduring interest in the formal, functional, and expressive qualities of the grid. I am curious about how the grid functions as a means of ordering the chaos of the world, of imposing some sort of organizing principle upon that which is inherently disorganized, and of attempting to digitize the analog into discrete units.

The grid helps us plan and construct everything from microprocessors to entire cities. It aides us in conceptualizing something as ephemeral as a field of energy, space, and the logical landscape of mathematics.

I am seeking insights as to where the humanity exists in something as rigid and 'cold' as the grid with all its straight lines and right angles. I often strive for precision and refinement in my work but I am also looking for the moments of balance between logic and expression and the poetics and beauty that exists in the spaces where the grid falls apart.

For this project, I am drawing one grid every day over the course of a year in order to explore this particularly abstract, yet human, formal framework.
